Experience

Where I have worked and what I actually did there.

Chapter 013 month internship

Software Engineering Intern

ZipThought

First time working inside a production codebase written by other people, on the authentication and permissions side of a live product.

  • 46+ endpoints

Designed and implemented over 46 REST API endpoints across accounts, classes, prompts and responses.

  • 280+ checks, 48 files

Built over 280 automated checks across 48 test files, significantly improving backend reliability and regression safety.

  • Built authentication flows, user and account management, and role based access control.

  • Resolved defects through structured diagnosis: reproduction, isolation of cause, fix, verification before release.

  • Introduced stand ups, retrospectives and fortnightly planning to a team operating without a fixed delivery cadence.

  • Shipped through GitHub pull requests and peer review, with endpoint documentation produced for ongoing team support.

What stayed with me

Trace the piece you own end to end rather than trying to understand the whole system first. Ask with a specific question and what you already tried, and the answer costs ten minutes instead of a day.

  • TypeScript
  • Node.js
  • REST
  • automated testing
  • Git
  • GitHub
  • Agile
Chapter 022025 to present

Freelance Software Developer

Self employed

Builds and runs systems for small business owners. Sole point of contact from first brief through launch and ongoing support.

  • Built and deployed a production online store and a production AI phone assistant for the same client, and maintains both.

  • Owns hosting, domains, DNS records and HTTPS certificates for what was delivered.

  • Hardened deployments with Content Security Policy headers, Dependabot, gitleaks secret scanning and Semgrep static analysis.

  • Wrote client facing proposals and non technical operating guides covering options, running costs and day to day use.

  • Scope grew from website delivery into advising the owner on how to run the business online.

What stayed with me

When you build for a small business you are also the person they call when it breaks. That changes what you optimise for.

Chapter 032024 to 2025

Peer Mentor

RMIT University

Self nominated volunteer mentor. Helped students one to one and in small groups with coursework, development environment setup and project work.

  • Diagnosed and fixed installation and setup problems on Windows and macOS: IDEs, compilers, SDKs, database clients and version control.

  • Worked through failed installations, environment and PATH misconfiguration, permission and dependency conflicts, and login and access problems.

  • Explained technical steps in plain language to students with very different levels of technical confidence.

Chapter 04January 2025 to February 2026

Team Member

Coles Group

Customer facing retail role held concurrently with final year study and subsequent freelance work.

  • Served a high volume of customers each shift in a fast paced store.

  • Helped customers with self service checkouts and handled routine faults on scanners and payment terminals, escalating when a technician was needed.

  • Prioritised competing tasks during peak trading while holding service standards.

  • Handled difficult customer situations calmly and followed them through to resolution.

Chapter 05Lab work

Lab

Lab / ongoing / September 2026

Microsoft 365 and Intune lab tenant

Read a position description, found the honest gap was device management and Microsoft 365 administration, and built a lab rather than explaining the gap in an interview.

  • A Microsoft 365 Business Premium trial tenant from scratch
  • Users with real job title and department attributes
  • An assigned security group and a dynamic security group with a membership rule
  • A break glass Global Administrator account, created before writing policies that could cause a lockout
  • Security defaults and sign in log analysis

Break things deliberately so the failure is familiar from the user's side, not just from the console.

Lab / complete / September 2026

Jamf Now Apple device management lab

Apple device administration was the real gap. Worked through the Jamf 100 material, then ran it on a borrowed Mac with the owner's informed consent.

  • Jamf Now tenant
  • Apple MDM Push Certificate via Apple Business Manager
  • Device enrolment
  • Blueprint with apps and a lock screen message

When a system reports success and nothing has happened, the answer is usually in the gap between two views of the same object rather than in the logs.

live, in development

WearOrbit

A wardrobe management app. Personal project, live and still being built.

A Next.js application on Neon Postgres with Auth.js authentication, Vercel Blob storage behind an authenticated proxy route, ZXing barcode scanning, and an Anthropic API pipeline that reads garment care tags from a photo and validates the extracted item.

Orbit Apply

An agentic job search system that finds, filters, tailors and applies. Built because the manual version was eating his week.

Specification first: SPEC-000 through SPEC-010, a CLAUDE.md, and a twelve session build prompt book. Infrastructure on Cloudflare Pages with Email Routing, Adzuna API verified.
